Angels

In today's society angels are considerd to be completly good and are supposeed to be the protectors of humanity., but on supernatural this is not necessarily the case. The Angels on supernatural are mostly protrayed as being emotionless, arogant, and jealous beings that have a complete lack of care for humanity. They see humanity as being flawed and inferior creatures that do not desearve to have god's special love and that we are unfit to rule earth. The main storyline involving the angels is there war with eachother and a little bit of conflict with the demons, but they are mostly too busy fighting themselves to fight with the demons.

With god not around in heaven a rift forms between the angles when it becomes clear that there are diffrenet groups that have their own ideas about how to run heaven and what to do about earth. Many of the angels are power hungry and always trying to get above there fellow angels and have more power then everyone else. Many of the angels have not seen or spoken with god, however there are  four angels that are believed to have seen or spoken with god. God is presumed to no longer be in heaven leaving the angels to protect humanity for him.  Many of the angles want to bring upon the apocalypse just as much the demons do as they are tired of the duty that god left them with. God seems to be protrayed as abandoning the angles and not caring about them or there actions. This is a much diffferent idea of god then the one that is traditionally thought of which is that god is loving and cares about everyone. The diffrent groups that come together each have there own ideas about what to do with earth some want to destroy it while others somewhat sympathize with man kind.  In these angel wars there really is no good guy but rather just a lesser evil in many of the various battles between the angels.

The fallen angel storyline is  played out specifically in season 9, the fallen angels in supernatural are considerd to be those who have defied the laws and principals of heaven. The ep from season 9 titled "I'm no angel"  features this storyline as the episode shows one of the angel factions using an internet preacher to convince devout people to let the many fallen angles now roaming earth to pocess their bodies.  Later on in this season the falen angles have their own civil war between the angels working for Bartholomew and those working for Malachai,  as each one wants to be leading the fallen angels.

The war between the angels and demons is showcased in the ep called "Heaven and Hell"  from season 4. In this ep the angels and Demons are fighting over a fallen angel named Anna, the demons want her so that they can get information on heaven from her and the angels want to kill her so that she cant talk. The only somewhat good side in this confrontation is the winchester brothers who are trying to protect Anna but even they are not fully good as Dean is forced to turn her over to the Angels or they will kill his brother, they also threaten to send dean back to hell.

Demons

Demons have typically always been seen as evil especially in christianity as demons come from hell which is where the evil of the world goes. In supernatural the demons are protrayed as evil, cruel and sadisitic as well as being sophisticated in a way. The demons were led by Azazel for the first two seasons and became the main villains of the third season. The culture of the demons in the show is often compared to human culture especially in terms of religion, which is featured in the episode titled "Sin City"  from season 3. In this episode a town called Elisabeth in Ohio has been corrupt by  sin with prostitution, gambling and alcohol abuse, the demons played apart in the town becoming what it is but the humans did the rest all on their own. This episode provides the first introduction to the concept of Lucifer (fallen angel turned demon), which also reveals that some demons believe in a higher power that is Lucifer. Many of the demons on the show are inspired by aspects of history, such as the encyclopedia "Binesfield's Classification of Demons"

This encyclopedia  inspired the "magnificant seven" storyline of seven demons taking on the phyisical embodiment of the seven deadly sins. Similar to the angels the demons also had a battle within their own. The battle for hell occured in season 9 between Crowley the current king of hell and Abbadon a very powerful and old demon. The battle was not so much a physical one but rather one to win over the loyalty of all demons wiith whoever was able to obtain the majority becoming the ruler of hell. With Crowley being absent from hell much of the time becuase of the Winchesters, Abaddon is able to win over the rest of the demons and become the queen of hell.  Crowley is eventually able to take back the position of king of hell with the help of Dean wearing the mark of Cain, they are able to kill abaddon. Of the two powerful demons involved in this battle Crowley is definitely the lesser evil of the two as Abaddon is much more evil. Crowley is a much more careful leader with some type of conscious, he thinks about what he is doing before he acts upon it. Abaddon is much more reckless and evil with no conscious what so ever, as she wants to enslave all human kind.

Crowley and Abaddon

In this scene from the season 8 finale the winchester brothers, Castiel are watching the sky as many angels are falling from heaven. The fall was a result of Metatron's (powerful angel) spell to force some angels to fall. Metatron is reprented as an evil angel in the show.

In this scene from season 10 Castiel and Sam connect with previously deceased Bobby to open the gate to heaven. This scene also shows that heaven in supernatural looks like a building with each person having there own personal heaven.

In this scene from season 4 ep Heaven and Hell Sam and Dean are about to hand over former Angel Ann to the angels when a few demons come to intercept. This results in a battle bewteen the angels and demons over Ann, who in the battle gets her grace back and dissapears.
